Parent / Carer Awards Evening Consultation – October 2022

As DHT with responsibility for Student engagement, I am passionate about celebrating the success of our amazing students. I therefore would like to explore the idea of introducing two Awards evenings instead of the current single event so that we can celebrate the success of more students across all year levels.

Penicuik High School is a values based school and we want to celebrate the success our students achieve throughout each academic session. We are hoping to introduce two separate awards evenings, a BGE Awards Evening and a Senior Phase Awards Evening. We would  therefore like to consult with our wider school community and ask our parents / carers to share their opinion by answering the questions below.

The BGE Awards Evening would focus on the success our students have achieved throughout the year and this will include departmental awards, PRIDE awards based on our praise postcards and school values and wider achievement awards for achievements outside the classroom.
The Senior Phase Awards will celebrate the academic achievement of our students throughout the year and will continue to follow the outline of the current ceremony held each session in June. We would like to know your feelings about the timing of this event.

Careers Breakfast

Each month we will be running a ‘Careers Breakfast’ , open to all S4, S5 and S6 students. This is a chance for students to find out more about jobs and careers in an area they may be interested in. This will typically take the format of a guest speaker from a specific career sector followed by the opportunity for students to ask questions.

Our first Careers Breakfast in September welcomes 2 employees from NHS Lothian and Midlothian Council who together represent the Midlothian Health & Social Care Partnership. They will be talking about all routes and pathways into health and social care, what it is like to work in this sector and where it can take you in the future. This will cover roles such as Health Care Assistant, Nursing and Community Health.
October’s ‘Careers Breakfast’ will focus on where a Language can take you for work and November will have a focus on Childcare.  Details will be posted on Google Classroom nearer the time.

The Big Day – Thursday 15 September 2022

The Big Day is our Wellbeing and Sustainability day and has been a fixture in the Penicuik High School Calendar over the years.
It is the first time since lockdown and Covid restrictions that we have had the opportunity to come together as a whole school community to participate in an event.  Pupils will take part in a range of indoor and outdoor activities as diverse as parkour, Cheerleading, Table Tennis, Petanque, First Aid, to name a few.  They are also participating in workshops on themes of Physical and Mental Wellbeing, Global Citizenship, Rights of the Child, Sustainability, we also have a session on Equine Mindfulness.  The Big Day also features our wellbeing walk round the John Clerk estate.
