Welcome to the Physics Department. The following staff work in the department:

Our aims are to give pupils an understanding of how the universe is governed by certain physical laws.

S1 and S2 

In S1 and S2 Pupils follow the CfE broad education in Science. Level 3 Physics units include at S1- Energy and Electricity and S2 Heat, Light and Sound and Forces.

S3 and 4
Pupils will undertake studies in a variety of different areas. The aim of the course is to build on Level 3 Science outcomes covered during S1 and S2. The course consists of three units to be studied at  National 4 and National 5 level during S3 and S4. The three Units are Waves and Radiation Space and Energy. Students will study a variety of topics ranging from sound waves nuclear radiation forces information from Space and energy conservation. The physics courses that are delivered aim to provide an application led approach to teaching and learning where pupils will develop an understanding of the role of physics in scientific issues. Pupils will also acquire and apply knowledge and understanding of concepts in physics and develop scientific and analytical thinking skills. National 4 content will be assessed internally in school there will be no external assessment. National 5 content will be assessed internally and by the SQA. Pupils understanding of N4 and N5 Physics  course is supported through access to Virtual Physics and other useful resources via Edmodo. Pupils are given access codes in lessons.
Higher Physics
Course content: The course is made up of three mandatory units: Mechanics and Properties of Matter Electricity and Electronics Radiation and Matter. While these units are valuable in their own right candidates will gain considerable additional benefit from completing this course since there will be opportunities for the integration of skills developed through study of the units and for tackling problem solving of a more complex nature than that required for attainment of the performance criteria of the units. Evidence of achievement of the problem solving core skill will be provided by end of Unit assessments a report on practical work and the external examination. Pupils understanding of Higher Physics  course is supported through access to Virtual Physics via Edmodo. Pupils are given access codes in lessons.
Advanced Higher Physics
Course content: The course is made up of four mandatory units: Mechanics, Electrical Phenomena, Wave Phenomena and a Physics Investigation  by end of Unit assessments reports on practical work and the external examination.
