PARENT UPDATE – NEW VISION AND VALUES
We have undergone a thorough period of consultation with stakeholders on both our new school vision and associated values. It was important we made sure that a wide range of views were sought from pupils, parents and staff and are now in a position to share these with you. We will formally launch these with pupils when we return to school in August, but we hope you agree that this is a very positive step forward for our school community.
The final Vision statement for Penicuik High School is:
“At Penicuik High School we aim to create a caring community where everyone is respected, included, treated with kindness, and feels safe. We believe in nurturing a learning environment that strives for excellence, values diversity, promotes dignity and encourages personal growth, preparing students to succeed in a connected world.”
From this statement, the following four Values will support our steps towards achieving our Vision. The four values are:
The vision and values will also play a central role in our new positive relationships and behaviour policy that is under development. This is driven by the UNCRC (United Nations Convention for the Rights of the Child) which now has legal standing in Scotland with the passing of the incorporation bill in January 2024. The school currently holds a Silver level Rights Respecting Schools Award that recognises how well we promote the rights within the UNCRC in school and are progressing plans to seek a Gold Award into next session. Our aim is to develop this positive relationships and behaviour policy throughout the next academic session and ensure it is rights based. We will need your help with this, and look forward to hearing your thoughts and views as the policy develops.
