Penicuik High School Remembers

Friday 12th November 2021

Yesterday the pupils of Penicuik High School took part in a number of activities to commemorate Armistice Day.  During registration the pupils held a virtual assembly which was expertly led by our Senior Leaders.  Pupils were taught all about Armistice Day.  Some of our Senior Leaders also read out well known poems such as In Flanders Field, Dulce Decorum Est and The Day My Family Came.  We were also extremely fortunate to have Sarah Hope’s Grandfather take part where he told the pupils all about his life in the Military and then played the bagpipes for us.

The pupils were then taught about the significance of the poppy and the one hundred year anniversary of the poppy.  Each pupil was then given the opportunity to create a poppy with a message of thanks to add to our school mural.

At 11am the whole school took part in a minute silence to commemorate fallen soldiers from all wars.  Pupils who were outdoors in P.E. lessons went to Penicuik’s War Memorial to complete the minute silence.  We were exceptionally proud of all of our pupils who took the time to reflect and thank those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Our Senior Leaders then used all of the pupils’ poppies to create our mural of Remembrance.
