Prevent

The Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015 places a duty on schools to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.  Midlothian’s Prevent Procedures and Guidance are in place alongside Child Protection Procedures and Guidance.

Potential indicators of concern could include:

  • Using extremist narratives / language
  • Concerning internet searches
  • Drawing inappropriate or unknown symbols
  • A sudden disrespectful attitude towards others
  • Isolating themselves from friends

Any parent/carer wishing to discuss any concerns they have in relation to Prevent or any young people being drawn into terrorism is asked to contact Mrs Diane Burgess, Depute Head Teacher and Prevent Lead within Penicuik High School.
