Parental Update – Information for those with Students in S1-S3

Tuesday 23rd March 2021

Dear Parent/Carer

Parental Update – Information for those with Students in S1-S3

It is with great pleasure that we are at last able to begin to welcome young people back to school where they belong, notwithstanding its limited nature.  It is our hope that the public health situation will continue to stabilise, allowing us to return to a full timetable after Easter. Further advice on the re-start after the Easter break will be made available in the last week of term.

I would like to note the following for parent/carers with students in the Broad General Education phase (BGE), S1-S3.

Students in S1 will be issued with a full written report on Friday 4 June 2021. A Parents’ Evening will follow, scheduled for Tuesday 15 June. This will be a telephone consultation and further advice and guidance on this will be sent out prior to the event. The report will include a commentary on student’s progress and next steps, as well as a broader indication of Effort, Behaviour and Homework. Each subject or ‘curricular area’ will also indicate the BGE Level within which students are currently working.

Students in S2 will receive a further Tracking Report on Friday 18 June 2021, following on from the Full Report issued in December. This format will show ratings for Effort, Behaviour and Homework, and will again indicate the BGE Level within which pupils are currently working. If parent/carers have any questions about this report we encourage them to contact their child’s Guidance Teacher in the first instance.

S3 students are soon due to complete their studies within the BGE and will be issued with a Tracking Report on 14 May 2021 which includes their final ‘achieved’ Level for all curricular areas. This will be followed by a Parents’ Evening on Thursday 3 June 2021. As the students are now moving into SQA certificated courses and the opportunity for quality assessment in school has been disrupted we will delay a full report until October 2021 to better inform progress into the senior phase. However, if you feel any concern at all we urge you to contact your child’s Guidance Teacher to look at further support.

Finally, as we look to move back to our full timetable offer for S1-S3 (Broad General Education) after Easter we will be closely considering young peoples’ learning needs as well as their emotional health and wellbeing. All learning areas will be engaged in analysing attainment gaps, particularly numeracy and literacy and these gaps will need to be addressed over time as part of learning recovery. We see this recovery period as running right through until the end of session 2021-22 and into session 2022-23. A key part of this work will be working in partnership with parent/carers and if you feel that your child needs additional support in any way or that we have missed something happening in their lives that we should be aware of, we urge you to contact the school as soon as possible.
