Sutton Trust Summer School

For S5 students who would like to try out university life, the Sutton Trust Summer School is a unique and enlightening online summer school experience! Get sorted into your House, make friends from all across the UK, and try out loads of different academic subjects, guidance sessions and exciting social activities. With something for everyone, there will never be a dull moment!

Step Into Health @ Queen Margaret University
For: S5 LEAPS-eligible students (students must be in S5 when starting the programme)
Deadline: 22 March 2021
This opportunity is for LEAPS eligible students only. (Usually this means either you are the first generation in your family to apply for higher education, or you are from a low income family (receive EMA of free school meals), or are a young carer, or have spent time in care. If you are not sure whether you are LEAPS eligible, please speak to your guidance teacher.) For LEAPS-eligible students interested in studying Nursing or any of the Allied Health Professions. This programme will be helpful wherever you plan to apply. It will provide you with experience of studying these subjects at university and give you an opportunity to gain more insight into your subject of choice, as well as providing you with experience to reflect on as part of your personal statement.
The programme will begin in spring 2021 when you are in S5, and will continue into S6. You must begin the programme when you are in in S5. It is likely to be delivered online. (In-person events may take place when it is safe to do so, subject to Covid-19 guidance.)

Nuffield Research Placements
For: S5 students (eligibility criteria applies)
Deadline: 31 March 2021
For S5 pupils who are interested in an area of science, quantitative social science, computing, technology, engineering or maths – or a combination! Work with an expert on a real-life research project to develop your knowledge and skills, and to learn more about STEM higher education opportunities and different career paths. The project takes place over 4-6 weeks during the summer and is likely to be delivered online. (In-person events may take place when it is safe to do so, subject to Covid-19 guidance.)
