Just because it is snowing – that doesn’t mean there’s no work you can do for your course!

National 5 and Higher pupils who have already completed their assignment should focus on exam skills.  Pupils can work through exam style questions.  These can be ones we have already worked on in class or can be questions given out before the prelims.  If accessing the SQA website, please remember that not all past papers will be relevant as some courses have changed.

Pupils who missed the assignment last week should be prepared to do their write up as soon as we are back in school.

National 5 & Higher

Both National 5 and Higher candidates should work on their coursework assignment. You should do at least one hours work a day for each day you are off school, and two hours for a Wednesday. The Higher Assignment is:

  • Worth 30 marks
  • 33% of overall grade
  • Graded A-D

The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate how you challenge and apply yourself using your skills, knowledge and understanding of a religious moral or philosophical question/issue. Remember to keep a record of and organise your findings to answer the question. The table below shows what the marks are available for. Use it to plan your report sheet content.

Support your conclusion with evidence Give clear reasons WHY you have reached the conclusion that you have. Explain the evidence or opposition from the sources gathered

Research the question/issue If you meet all of the above criteria, this will provide evidence of your research

Advanced Higher

You should use this time to continue reading around your current topic, practice essay writing or work on your dissertation. You will know which area is best for your personal attention.

For essay writing here are some questions for you:

“How far do recent scientific findings disprove the Cosmological Argument as proof of God’s existence?”

“How convincing is apparent design in the universe proof of a creator?”
