REGENERATION PROJECT

The Penicuik Town Hall regeneration Project wants to engage with a group of young people from Penicuik High School next week in order to set up a steering group of Young people from the Penicuik area.  This would involve you giving input into the future of the Town Hall and how it may benefit young people in the town.  I am calling for up to 8 students from S1-S6 who would like to be involved initially next week in an hour long engagement session. If you are interested in Architecture or related fields then this would be a good opportunity for you.  If you are interested please meet Mr Biddick this morning straight after Registration in the Head Teacher’s office.  Thanks.

EDINBURGH COLLEGE SCP/FA PUPILS

Most courses are now underway as part of the College’s June transition programme and pupils should continue to attend on Tues/Thu of this week; June 11 and 13.

College pupils should be encouraged to check the noticeboard outside the guidance base regularly for information about their courses and a reminder of college contacts for each campus if required.

Unfortunately there were a few teething problems last week where a number of pupils decided to make up their own rules about when to leave school to attend college or that is was acceptable to attend school without uniform.  This is not acceptable and the pupils involved will be spoken to and warned.  A reminder that the arrangements for attending college were made clear in your introduction letter and a signed parental permission form was returned to support attendance.  Failure to comply with the arrangements put in place to support your college placement may lead to disciplinary action being taken, parents/carers contacted and your college placement being withdrawn.  The opportunity to attend college is a fantastic one and should not be jeapordised by poor organisation.  However, if you do experience any unforeseen issues with sustaining your college placement, please come and discuss these with me so we can work to resolve them.

On behalf of the guidance team, I hope all of the pupils involved will enjoy and benefit from the college experience.

Ms McLennan

RESPECT FOR THE COMMUNITY

All students are reminded that whether you are in school or out in Penicuik, you are representing your school and should show respect for the community and for property.  There should be no littering in the streets, please put your litter in bins provided or in your bag.

Thank you.

EDINBURGH COLLEGE OPEN DAYS FOR S4/S5/S6

Edinburgh College are hosting a range of Open Days inviting pupils to visit one or more of their campuses.  This should give them the opportunity to explore the range of options on offer, find out more about life at College and support their future choices.  As a school we have organised visits to take pupils to two out of the three campuses.  There are also open sessions on each date at each of the three campuses from 4:00pm-6.30pm should any pupil wish to attend with their parents or guardians.

The Open Days are taking place as follows:

Date                                           Campus                        Times

Thursday 7 December             Granton                         Open Evening 4-6pm

Tuesday 12 December             Milton Road                School visit leaving at 10am –        returning to school for 12.30pm

Thursday 14 December           Sighthill                        School visit leaving at 10am – returning to school for 12.30pm

Each campus will have information points for pupils to discuss their areas of interest as well as presentations and tours of the facilities.  Any pupil in S4/S5/S6 who is considering applying to Edinburgh College and therefore interested in going on one of these visits should collect a permission form from the guidance base, one of the guidance team or Careers Advisors.  We will be limited to one coach load of pupils and staff per visit so you will need to get your permission form completed and returned as soon as possible to secure your place.  Please make sure you indicate which of the two visits you would like to go on.  If there is availability for you to attend both campuses, we will allow this but please state your preference.  There are also January start courses for anyone in S5 or 6 who is considering leaving after Christmas.

For more information see:       http://www.edinburghcollege.ac.uk

Thanks.
