REMINDER – CAREERS CONVENTION THURSDAY 12 MARCH 6.30 – 8.30PM
Our annual Careers Convention will take place TONIGHT. This is open to all S2 – S6 students along with their parents/carers. Universities, colleges, apprenticeship providers, local employers and the armed forces will be attending. This is a chance for you and your parents/carers to speak to representatives from various organisations about career pathways and future plans. Tickets (free of charge) are now available from the Guidance Base. One ticket per family.

A reminder to all teachers and students that this is the final week to bring in any new/ good quality used stationary to donate to Namadzi Community Day Secondary School. If you are unable to bring in any stationary please consider donating £1 to put towards posting the items to Malawi! Prince’s Trust students will be collecting registration classes donations Period 5 on Thursday. Thank you!

Did you know that East Lothian and Midlothian High School pupils can enter the 2020 event for free? MYPAS promotes the health and wellbeing of young people in East Lothian & Midlothian offering support to young people as they overcome Greater Challenges – we recognise that young people running 5K or 10K is an Incredible Challenge so we want to help by making the event free to enter for them.

“SCIENCE INSIGHTS” 2020 – WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITY FOR CURRENT S5 PUPILS – MONDAY 27 TO FRIDAY 31 JULY 2020
“Science Insights” is an exciting work experience programme from the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. Created for current S5 secondary school students (who are returning to school for S6), successful applicants will spend five days (Monday 27 to Friday 31 July inclusive) following a varied programme of activities on four different University of Edinburgh campuses, designed to give a real insight into research and work in biological, biomedical and animal sciences. To apply for a place, speak to Mr Saffhill.
Note that the closing date for applications is Monday 27 April and places will be assigned on the basis of the applications received as well as Widening Participation criteria – NOT on a “first come, first served” basis – by Friday 8 May.
GEOSCIENCES PLANET EARTH DISTINGUISHED LECTURE.

The School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh has an established annual ‘Planet Earth Distinguished Lecture Series’ where an internationally renowned scientist is invited to Edinburgh. This year Prof Penny Holliday from the National Oceanography Centre will be delivering a public lecture on Wednesday 18
March 2020 at an evening reception at Dynamic Earth from 18:00 – 22:00. The event will be of interest to pupils studying geography, computer science, biology, chemistry or physics. To register, pupils should speak to Mr Saffhill. Please note that as this is an evening event, we recommend that younger pupils are accompanied by an adult.
