ATTENTION S5 STUDENTS

A fantastic opportunity has arisen with Sutton Trust Summer School – They are looking for high achieving (at least 5 Bs at National 5) students from less-advantaged backgrounds in state schools – Anyone can apply but they will look more favourably if you are from a less advantaged background.  In general, this means you would be in the first generation of your family to attend university or you have been eligible for free school meals at any point during your secondary education.

If you are wondering if you meet the criteria and want to apply for the Sutton Trust Summer Schools, please see Mr Saffhill.

This year over 2000 students on a Sutton Trust Summer School will experience university life through:

  • spending a week in halls of residence at one of 13 leading UK universities
  • attending academic sessions in one of over 40 different subjects
  • meeting like-minded students from across the UK through social activities

It is completely free of charge for students to attend. All costs including travel, accommodation, food and activities are covered by the Trust and our partners.

Students who take part in a Sutton Trust Summer School:

  • increase in confidence
  • receive application support
  • make informed choices about university
  • gain access to our outstanding alumni community

LIBRARY PROVISION BREAK AND LUNCH TIMES DURING THE S5/6 PRELIMS

The library is being used for S5/6 prelims and therefore out of general use until 28 January. To provide a continuity of service during lunch and break times, from Monday 13 January until Monday 27 January a temporary “pop up” library service will be held in Room 33 (the Youth Workers room). If you usually come in during break and lunch, as many of you do, just head up to room 33 where you can return books and take books out as (a selection of our stock will be there) and there will be plenty space for working etc.  Our thanks to Ms Slaney for agreeing to us using the space.

Mr N Smith/Mr Jamieson
