GREEN PLAN IT! COMPETITION
Congratulations to our fantastic S2 students Matthew Gallacher, Finlay Robertson, Lewis Johnstone, Maddie Fraser, Andrea Suarez and Megan McGreevy who won the Green it Plan it Challenge at the Botanical Gardens on 4 December. The competition was judged by the Royal Horticultural Society and they were impressed by the delivery and concept of their project which was to develop a much needed recreational and outside dining area for the school. During enrichment in Home Economics the students have been supported by Mrs Van Aswegen and a mentor from Pentland Plants, Matt Henton, over a 10 week period. Their commitment and hard work is to be commended and PHS now has £250 in gardening vouchers that can lay the foundation of the projects next steps. Many thanks to the art department for resources and advice, a great result #PRIDE!

MALAWI PARTNERSHIP – LOGO DESIGN COMPETITION
A reminder that the logo design competition for our partnership with Namadzi Secondary School in Malawi is open to all pupils in the school. We would like you to come up with a design based on the old Scots idea of the “Common Weal” – a term that denotes friendship and compassion with others. Your logo should be recognisably “Scottish”, but you can use any material to design it. Our partners in Malawi are currently doing the same and we hope to combine the winning designs from the two schools to make a single image. Please hand any designs to Mrs Andrew (Room 12) or Mr Murphy (Music) by Wednesday 20 December.
The next Sports Council meeting will be on Thursday 18 January 2018 at lunchtime in the PE classroom.

EDINBURGH COLLEGE PROSPECTUSES
Please see online links to Edinburgh College’s 2018-19 prospectuses. These are handy when looking at all the courses available in each curricular area – both full and part time – and includes SCP courses.
Pupils can apply online now for January start courses. For courses starting in August 2018 they can apply from 22 January 2018.
College visits on 12 December (Milton Road) and 14 December (Sighthill) – pupils should highlight which Open Day they wish to attend in case they cannot attend both. Forms can be collected from the Guidance base and need to be returned by the end of this week – Friday 8 December so we have an idea of numbers!
EDINBURGH COLLEGE OPEN DAYS FOR S4/S5/S6
Edinburgh College are hosting a range of Open Days inviting pupils to visit one or more of their campuses. This should give them the opportunity to explore the range of options on offer, find out more about life at College and support their future choices. As a school we have organised visits to take pupils to two out of the three campuses. There are also open sessions on each date at each of the three campuses from 4:00pm-6.30pm should any pupil wish to attend with their parents or guardians.
The Open Days are taking place as follows:
Date Campus Times
Thursday 7 December Granton Open Evening 4-6pm
Tuesday 12 December Milton Road School visit leaving at 10am – returning to school for 12.30pm
Thursday 14 December Sighthill School visit leaving at 10am – returning to school for 12.30pm
Each campus will have information points for pupils to discuss their areas of interest as well as presentations and tours of the facilities. Any pupil in S4/S5/S6 who is considering applying to Edinburgh College and therefore interested in going on one of these visits should collect a permission form from the guidance base, one of the guidance team or Careers Advisors. We will be limited to one coach load of pupils and staff per visit so you will need to get your permission form completed and returned as soon as possible to secure your place. Please make sure you indicate which of the two visits you would like to go on. If there is availability for you to attend both campuses, we will allow this but please state your preference. There are also January start courses for anyone in S5 or 6 who is considering leaving after Christmas.
