FOR THE ATTENTION OF ALL S5 & S6 PUPILS

I will shortly be meeting with senior pupils to discuss alternative assessment requirements for the preliminary examinations in January.  Any senior pupil who DOES NOT use alternative assessment arrangements, but who intends to use IT to complete any examinations, should  make a point of contacting Mrs Simpson in either the office or the guidance base.  Please give her your name and I will contact you shortly to discuss your requirements.

Mrs Edge-Loake

CHANGE TO S4 PRELIM TIMETABLE

Wednesday 29 November – change to prelim timetable:

Media N5 – 9am to 11am

RMPS N5 – 1.40pm-2.40pm

With RMPS exam now being shorter, changing them around avoids a start during lunchtime which is better for everyone.

Congratulations and well done to the following swimmers who all represented Penicuik High School at the above event last weekend.

All pupils had fantastic swims competing against pupils from all over Edinburgh & the Lothian’s – great results for Penicuik HS!  Special mention must be given to Fraser who came first, winning gold, in 100 fly & 200 fly.

REMINDER – PREP FOR EMPLOYMENT GROUP

Ross will be back in school on 27 November so the group will resume then.  A reminder that on 27 November you should go to Community room 4 instead of going to the library due to the S4 prelims.  You will be back in the library from Monday 4 December (with the exception of S4 who are out on work experience that week).

REMINDER – MALAWI PARTNERSHIP – LOGO DESIGN COMPETITION

A reminder that the logo design competition for our partnership with Namadzi Secondary School in Malawi is open to all pupils in the school. We would like you to come up with a design based on the old Scots idea of the “Common Weal” – a term that denotes friendship and compassion with others. Your logo should be recognisably “Scottish”, but you can use any material to design it. Our partners in Malawi are currently doing the same and we hope to combine the winning designs from the two schools to make a single image.  Please hand any designs to Mrs Andrew (Room 12) or Mr Murphy (Music) by Wednesday 20 December.

Mrs Andrew

REMINDER – ESRC (ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL RESEARCH COUNCIL)

‘The Bigger Picture’ Photographic Competition 2017

This year we have again been invited to encourage our pupils to enter the ESRC ‘The Bigger Picture’ photographic competition.  This is an opportunity for 14-18 year olds to be creative by using photography to explore the relevance of social science to their life.  This year they are inviting social media entries to the competition, allowing you to submit up to a further three photographs via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, using the hashtag #esrcphoto.  The competition is open until 15 December 2017 and all entries are to be submitted via their online entry form or via social media. If you wish to enter this competition please see Ms Dixon in the Art Dept who will supply you with more information. Best of luck!
